Govt Launches Digital Platform for Trade Remedy Document Submissions

The government is building a digital platform to allow electronic submission of documents in trade remedy investigations. This move aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and access for all stakeholders, according to an official statement on Saturday.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), under the Commerce Ministry, conducts these investigations.

Since 1995, India has launched over 1,200 trade remedy cases. Recent actions have shielded domestic industries like solar energy and advanced materials—such as solar cells and copper wire rods—from unfairly priced imports and subsidized goods.

The new digital platform, expected to launch soon, will streamline the process for businesses involved in investigations. It will also help the government handle cases more efficiently.

DGTR’s core mission is to protect Indian industries from harmful trade practices like dumping and subsidies by conducting swift, time-bound investigations.

The directorate handles anti-dumping, anti-subsidy (CVD), and safeguard investigations. The Finance Ministry then decides whether to impose duties.

Through its trade defence wing, DGTR has also challenged unfair trade remedy measures imposed by other countries. These efforts have helped reduce or eliminate such duties on Indian exports, protecting India’s trade interests.

In 2018, the government formed DGTR by merging the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) and the Directorate General of Safeguards.
