Tax Commissioner Conducts Surprise GST Inspection in Rainak Bazaar

State Financial Commissioner (Taxation) Krishan Kumar conducted a surprise inspection in the old market area of Rainak Bazaar on Thursday. During the visit, he observed a widespread trend of shop owners selling items without issuing bills, leading to GST evasion. Although no penalties were imposed, the Commissioner delivered a stern warning to traders engaging in such practices.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Darveer Raj and Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kumar, the inspection team initially faced resistance from shopkeepers, who expressed concerns about how the checks might affect their sales during the festive season. However, officials reassured them that the purpose of the visit was to issue warnings rather than take immediate action, and they proceeded to review the bill books of several shops.

A GST Inspector stated, “Although no action has been initiated against any offenders, the shopkeepers have been instructed to ensure that every customer receives a bill. We are also emphasizing the necessity for traders to obtain a GST number while focusing on Business-to-Customer (B2C) billing compliance.”

Despite the state government holiday for Agrasen Jayanti, Commissioner Krishan Kumar inspected around 40 shops. Following the Rainak Bazaar inspection, the GST teams moved on to check dhabas, furniture stores, plywood shops, bag vendors, and stationery shops, urging them to bill customers under all circumstances. The local teams continued their surveys in other markets on the following day.

This surprise inspection underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing GST compliance and ensuring that all transactions are properly documented.
