Senior journalist Mahesh Langa, detained in connection with a large-scale GST fraud case, withdrew his petition challenging his 10-day remand during a hearing in the Gujarat High Court on Monday. Langa, the Gujarat Correspondent for The Hindu, was arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on October 8.
The petition, filed on October 10, was heard by Justice Sandeep Bhatt, who initially deferred the case to October 14. During the latest hearing, Langa’s counsel, Vedant Rajguru, requested to withdraw the plea, which the court permitted.
Langa’s remand, granted by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, was part of an ongoing investigation that has resulted in the arrests of eight individuals connected to the GST fraud. Four more accused were arrested on October 13, further intensifying the probe.
