The GSTN Advisory No. 583, dated February 12, 2025, introduces updated procedures for GST registration under Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017. These guidelines emphasize biometric verification, document verification, and procedural compliance to ensure smooth registration and ARN generation.
Key Highlights of the Updated GST Registration Process
Applicants Not Opting for Aadhaar Authentication
- Must visit a designated GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for photo capturing and document verification.
- Upon selecting “NO” for Aadhaar authentication, an email with GSK details and required documents will be sent.
- Scheduling an appointment via the email link is mandatory.
- Visit the GSK at the scheduled time for verification.
Applicants Opting for Aadhaar Authentication & Identified for Biometric Authentication
- Promoters, partners, and the Primary Authorized Signatory (PAS) must visit the GSK for:
- Biometric authentication
- Photo capturing
- Document verification
- If previously biometric verified in any State/UT, applicants are exempt from biometric authentication and photo capturing. However, document verification at GSK remains necessary.
- When the promoter, partner, and PAS are the same individual, they must complete all verification steps at the GSK.
Non-Generation of ARN & Rectification Process
- Failure in biometric authentication, incomplete document verification, or absence at the GSK within 15 days prevents ARN generation.
- Ensure Aadhaar details (name, DOB, gender) are accurate to avoid authentication failures.
- In case of discrepancies, update Aadhaar details and complete verification within 15 days.
Why This Update Matters
- Streamlines GST registration to reduce fraud and enhance compliance.
- Eliminates repeated biometric verification for previously verified applicants.
- Ensures timely ARN generation for smooth GST registration processing.
Taxpayers should follow these updated guidelines to avoid delays in GST registration.
