GST Network Introduces Invoice Management System (IMS)

The GST Network (GSTN) has announced the Invoice Management System (IMS), effective October 1, 2024. This system aims to streamline invoice corrections, ensure accurate Input Tax Credit (ITC) matching, and enhance overall compliance on the GST portal.

Key Features of IMS

Invoice Actions: Recipients can now accept, reject, or keep invoices pending. These actions will impact their GSTR-2B and ITC calculations.

Integration with GSTR-2B: The system will include only accepted invoices in GSTR-2B, ensuring accurate ITC claims.

Seamless Communication: IMS enables recipients to resolve discrepancies with suppliers’ invoices before filing GSTR-3B. This interaction helps ensure timely corrections.

Compliance Simplification: If recipients do not address invoices, the system will automatically deem them accepted. This change reduces the manual processing burden on taxpayers.

Impact on Suppliers: Rejected invoices will affect the supplier’s GSTR-3B in subsequent periods, promoting transparency and accountability.

Important Points to Note

Mandatory Actions: Taxpayers must recompute GSTR-2B if they make changes after the draft generation on the 14th of each month.

Sequential GSTR-2B: GSTR-2B for a period will be generated only after filing GSTR-3B for the previous period. This ensures proper sequence and compliance.

Special Cases: Records related to RCM supplies or non-eligible ITC will bypass IMS and directly appear in GSTR-3B.

The IMS represents a significant upgrade to the GST portal. It aims to improve accuracy and reduce compliance challenges for taxpayers.
