Introduction to Biometric Aadhaar Authentication in GST Registration

The GST Network (GSTN) has released Advisory No. 515, effective August 24, 2024, detailing new procedures for GST registration. This advisory introduces biometric Aadhaar authentication and enhanced document verification processes specifically for applicants in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Chandigarh.

Key Changes in GST Registration Process

  • New Rule Amendment:
    Rule 8 of CGST Rules, 2017 has been amended to incorporate biometric Aadhaar authentication. Applicants must now provide a biometric scan and a photograph, along with verifying original documents submitted with their GST application.
  • Updated Functionality Rollout:
    The new biometric authentication system is active in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Chandigarh. After submitting Form GST REG-01, applicants will receive an email with options for Aadhaar authentication:
    • Option 1: OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication.
    • Option 2: Book an appointment for biometric authentication at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK).
  • Appointment and Document Requirements:
    Applicants opting for biometric authentication must visit the designated GSK with:
    • Appointment confirmation email.
    • Jurisdiction details from the intimation email.
    • Original Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, and other supporting documents.
    • ARN (Application Reference Number) will be issued post successful biometric verification and document check.

Operational Guidelines for GST Suvidha Kendras

GSKs will function in line with the Union Territory’s administration guidelines, ensuring a streamlined and efficient registration process.
