GSTN Announces Launch of E-Way Bill 2.0 Portal from July 1, 2025

By Author | June 17, 2025 | GSTN Advisory No. 611

Overview

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced the launch of the E-Way Bill 2.0 Portal (https://ewaybill2.gst.gov.in) from July 1, 2025. Developed by the NIC, this upgraded system enhances real-time data sync and cross-portal functionality with the existing E-Way Bill 1.0 portal.

This dual-portal model ensures uninterrupted logistics operations and allows seamless updates and generation of E-Way Bills across both platforms.

Why E-Way Bill 2.0?

The E-Way Bill 2.0 portal was created in response to user feedback. Taxpayers and transporters demanded more robust, real-time services that work during downtimes and technical failures.

Key goals include:

  • Business continuity during system outages
  • Cross-portal access to critical features
  • Seamless logistics across platforms

New Inter-Operable Services

Users can now perform the following actions across both portals:

  • Generate E-Way Bills based on Part-A details
  • Create consolidated E-Way Bills
  • Extend the validity of E-Way Bills
  • Update transporter details
  • Retrieve consolidated E-Way Bills

Previously available services also remain accessible, such as:

  • Generating and printing E-Way Bills
  • Updating vehicle details

Real-Time System Synchronisation

The new architecture enables:

  • Instant data syncing between both portals
  • Criss-cross functionality, where updates made on one portal reflect on the other
  • Backup operation: If E-Way Bill 1.0 is down, users can continue operations on 2.0

This setup eliminates dependence on a single portal, ensuring that logistics operations don’t halt due to technical issues.

API Availability for Seamless Integration

All functionalities are available through APIs in addition to the web interface. These APIs are already hosted in the sandbox environment for testing and integration.

Users are encouraged to:

  • Test API integration early
  • Transition their systems smoothly
  • Leverage automated workflows

Key Benefits of E-Way Bill 2.0

  • Real-time inter-operability
  • Reduced portal downtime issues
  • Flexibility for taxpayers and transporters
  • API integration for automation
  • Streamlined logistics compliance

Final Advisory

All taxpayers and logistics operators should:

  • Explore the new portal at ewaybill2.gst.gov.in
  • Use the sandbox APIs for pre-integration testing
  • Refer to user manuals on both portals for detailed guidance
