β 187 Startups Approved for Tax Exemption
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has approved 187 startups for income tax relief under the revised Section 80-IAC of the Income Tax Act. These approvals were granted during the 80th Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB) meeting, held on April 30, 2025.
πΌ What the Tax Relief Offers
Startups approved under this scheme can claim 100% income tax deduction on profits for any three consecutive years within a ten-year window from the date of incorporation. This financial boost supports early-stage startups and promotes innovation, job creation, and entrepreneurship.
π More Than 3,700 Startups Approved So Far
Out of the 187 approvals:
- 75 startups were cleared in the 79th IMB meeting
- 112 startups received approval in the 80th IMB meeting
With these additions, over 3,700 startups have now received benefits since the launch of the scheme.
π Eligibility Extended to April 2030
The Union Budget 2025β26 extended the deadline to April 1, 2030, for startups to become eligible under Section 80-IAC. This move allows new startups more time to apply and benefit from the tax exemption.
π New Evaluation Framework for Faster Processing
DPIITβs revised evaluation framework has made the process simpler and more transparent. Under the new rules, complete applications are processed within 120 days, ensuring faster decisions and reducing delays.

Startups that were not selected this time are encouraged to refine and reapply. DPIIT urges applicants to highlight:
- Technological innovation
- Scalability and market potential
- Employment generation
- Economic contribution
