Dr. Arunish Chawla, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, officially assumed the role of Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, on December 26, 2024.

Professional Background

Dr. Chawla, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, brings an extensive and diverse administrative experience to his new role:

  1. Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals (November 1, 2023 – December 2024):

Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.

  1. Managing Director, Metro Rail Project Patna:

Oversaw project implementation and management.

  1. Foreign Assignments:

Senior Economist, International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Minister (Economic), Embassy of India, Washington DC.

  1. Previous Roles in Finance Ministry:

Served as Joint Secretary, Department of Expenditure.


Educational Qualifications

Dr. Chawla holds a Master’s and a Doctorate in Economics from the London School of Economics, adding academic depth to his policy-making expertise.
