CBIC Notifies Handling of Cargo in Customs Areas (Amendment) Regulations, 2024

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued Notification No. 75/2024-Customs (N.T.) on November 7, 2024, to amend the Handling of Cargo in Customs Areas Regulations, 2009.

Key Amendments:

  1. Reduced Time Frame for Customs Cargo Service Providers (CCSPs):

Regulation 5(3): The term for compliance has been reduced from ten years to five years.

  1. Extended Validity for Authorised Economic Operators (AEOs):

Regulation 10(2): For AEO-certified Customs Cargo Service Providers, the appointment approval remains valid as long as the AEO authorization is active and not suspended or revoked under Regulation 12.

These changes aim to streamline cargo handling processes, providing a more efficient framework for AEO-certified operators while adjusting compliance terms for other CCSPs.
