CBDT Notifies ITR-U: File Updated Returns for 4 Previous Years

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued Notification No. 49/2025 on May 19, 2025. This notification introduces the ITR-U (Income Tax Return for Updated Return) form.

The new form allows individuals to update their income details within 48 months from the end of the relevant assessment year.

Now, taxpayers can file ITR-U for the four previous assessment years. This change offers more flexibility for taxpayers to correct errors and update their income.
