GSTN Advisory: Biometric-Based Aadhaar Authentication for GST Applicants in Sikkim

Issued on: May 1, 2025
Applies to: GST Registration Applicants in Sikkim

Background

GSTN has introduced a new functionality for Biometric-Based Aadhaar Authentication and Document Verification under Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017. This update applies to applicants identified through data analysis and risk parameters on the GST portal.

Implementation in Sikkim

Starting May 1, 2025, this new process has been implemented in Sikkim. The system now supports both biometric authentication and document verification.

Steps After GST REG-01 Submission

Once you submit your GST REG-01 application, you will receive an email with one of the following:

  • (a) A link for OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication, or
  • (b) A link to book an appointment at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for biometric authentication and document verification.

If you receive the OTP link, you can follow the usual online authentication process.

However, if you receive the appointment link, you must schedule a visit to a GSK. The email will include appointment options and your jurisdiction details.

Appointment Booking and Visit to GSK

  • Applicants in Sikkim can book appointment slots from May 1, 2025 onward.
  • After booking, you will get an appointment confirmation email.
  • On the scheduled date, visit the GSK with the following:
    1. A copy (hard/soft) of your appointment confirmation email
    2. Your jurisdiction details from the intimation email
    3. Original Aadhaar Card and PAN Card
    4. The original versions of all documents uploaded with your application

On-Site Verification at GSK

During the visit, GST officials will perform:

  • Biometric-based Aadhaar Authentication, and
  • Verification of all submitted documents

This applies to all individuals listed in the REG-01 form. The appointment must be scheduled within the allowed time mentioned in the email. Once the process is completed, the ARN will be generated.

GSK Timings

GSKs will operate as per the state administration’s guidelines. Make sure to follow the instructions provided in your appointment email.
