
Commercial Tax Inspector Caught Taking Rs 20L Bribe in Bengaluru

An inspector from the commercial taxes department, Nijanandamurthy MR, was caught taking a Rs 20-lakh bribe to allow the illegal transportation of paan masala consignments into Bengaluru.
The Lokayukta police arrested him near Nagarabhavi on Thursday while he accepted the cash from an individual named Manoj M.
Officials said they acted on leads about department members demanding bribes to permit the transport of paan masala from Delhi to Bengaluru through the national highway.
This illegal activity has caused the exchequer losses amounting to crores of rupees.
A team led by Pavan Najjur, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru Rural), carried out the operation. Authorities have booked Nijanandamurthy under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
