Shocking GST Demand Raises Alarms Over PAN Misuse
In a shocking case of PAN card misuse and identity fraud, a 48-year-old UAE-based aviation consultant has filed a forgery case after receiving a false ₹2.84 crore GST notice from the Income Tax Department.
Consultant Denies Links to Alleged Firm and Income
Jitendra Adsool, originally from Santacruz, Mumbai, was stunned to receive an I-T department notice. It claimed he owed ₹2.84 crore in GST on unreported business income of ₹13.8 crore, allegedly earned via a firm named Cultural Traders between 2019 and 2022.
However, Adsool firmly denied having any link to the business. He stated that he never owned or operated any company in India under that name.
PAN Card Forgery Discovered After Professional Review
After consulting with a chartered accountant, Adsool learned that his Permanent Account Number (PAN) had allegedly been forged. This forged PAN was misused by unidentified individuals to register the company and file fraudulent GST returns.
Moreover, despite multiple formal complaints filed by his CA, Adsool kept receiving emails and legal warnings. As a result, his family approached Vakola police, leading to an FIR for forgery and identity theft.
Key Facts of the Case
- Victim: 48-year-old consultant based in UAE
- Notice: ₹2.84 crore GST demand on ₹13.8 crore fictitious income
- Accusation: Forgery of PAN card to register a fake business
- Legal Action: FIR registered at Vakola Police Station, Mumbai
- Departmental Response: I-T department has yet to resolve the complaint
Experts Caution Citizens Against PAN Fraud
Legal experts have urged Indian citizens, especially those living abroad, to stay vigilant. As digital systems grow, so do vulnerabilities in identity and document misuse.
Therefore, it’s crucial to monitor PAN-linked activity regularly, raise grievances with both GST and I-T departments at the first sign of suspicious use, and ensure all identification documents are secure.
