The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for certain trusts, institutions, and funds to submit their audit reports in Form No. 10B and Form No. 10BB for the assessment year 2023-24. Initially, these entities were given time until March 31, 2024, to rectify any errors in the forms they had filed. However, to mitigate difficulties faced by some organizations, the CBDT has further extended the deadline to November 10, 2024, under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
Key Highlights:
- Circular No. 02/2024: Allowed trusts, institutions, and funds to correct the audit form by March 31, 2024, if the wrong form was submitted initially.
- Extended Deadline: Organizations now have until November 10, 2024, to file the audit reports in the correct forms (Form No. 10B/10BB).
- Section 119: This extension is granted to alleviate genuine hardship for entities that were unable to meet the previous deadlines.
This decision provides additional time for trusts and institutions to ensure compliance with the correct filing requirements.
