LSG Forms Committee to Make Tax Collections User-Friendly

The Local Self Government (LSG) department has established a five-member committee to simplify tax collection in urban local bodies (ULBs) and make the process more user-friendly. This initiative aims to boost tax collections across urban bodies by making it easier for taxpayers to comply. The order, issued on Thursday by LSG Director Kumar Pal Gautam, states that the committee will evaluate the current tax collection methods and submit its report within 15 days.

The committee will examine the tax systems of urban local bodies in other states to identify best practices, rules, and laws that could be implemented in Rajasthan. The committee includes financial advisor Mahendra Mohan, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Janardan Sharma of JMC Greater, State Nodal Officer (Finance Commission) Kamal Deep Sharma, Assistant Legal Advisor Somdatta Khandappa, and Advisor Paras Jain.

Urban local bodies rely on several revenue sources, including Urban Development (UD) tax, advertisement fees, fire NOC fees, building plan approval fees, and mobile tower fees. The committee’s goal is to make the tax payment process more accessible by exploring solutions such as geo-fencing or geo-tagging of properties and facilitating online payment options for urban development taxes.

In addition, the government has also formed a six-member committee to streamline online and offline services provided by the LSG department, aiming to make them more time-bound and increase the number of services available online. Another five-member committee has been set up to address the pendency of court cases, analyze minor penalties, and develop a strategy to minimize the increase in future cases.
