CBDT to Launch Cyber Forensics Policy to Tackle Tax Evasion and Fraud
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is preparing to introduce a Cyber Forensics Policy aimed at combating tax evasion and preventing financial and cyber frauds, sources informed NDTV Profit on Friday.
The key aspect of the policy will involve the establishment of Digital Intelligence and Analytics Labs (DIALs) across the country. These labs will leverage digital footprints, including emails, social media activity, and financial records of companies and individuals, to detect and prevent fraudulent activities. Additionally, data from property transactions, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, GST Department, and banks will be analyzed as part of the initiative.
The rollout will take place in phases, with a strong focus on maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data. The DIALs will be equipped with advanced security measures, such as access control, to ensure data protection.
An official announcement regarding the policy is still awaited.
